Introduction:

Welcome to the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Trophy Guide!

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a Visual Novel-style game, presented in gorgeous 2D graphics as is typical from the game’s developer, Vanillaware. Unlike their previous games, however, the story is at the games forefront, whereas the actual battles take a bit of a backseat. This has good reason though, as Vanillaware has spun a fantastically gripping tale that will have you at the edge of your seat, eager to uncover the truth behind it all, all the while getting strung along its many twists and turns! When it DOES come to a battle, though, these will sweep you off the floor with fast-paced, strategic action, that has you deploy your squad of Sentinels – hulking, house-high robots – against wave after wave of invading kaiju. Fasten your seatbelts everyone, this will be a ride to remember!

Being a (mainly) visual novel-type game, most of the trophies are tied to simply progressing through the story – as in, they are not missable and easy to obtain. The rest of the trophies either task you with doing some miscellaneous actions during battles or at certain points of the story, or with getting S-Ranks in the battles and completing Bonus Objectives. Since difficulty does not matter for the trophies, you can play the battles at any difficulty you feel like. You are also able to freely re-do battles (and later on story chapters), so feel free to tackle the Trophy List however you see fit.

The game itself is divided into three main parts: Remembrance, Destruction and Analysis.

1. Remembrance: This is where all of the story will take place. You can freely choose which character’s story you want to tackle (after you have finished a prologue of sorts). Keep in mind that it is NOT possible to 100% complete one character’s story arc and then switch to another, as the game cleverly gates story progress with one character at certain points as to not ruin some story surprises too early. However, the game clearly tells you how to unlock each character again, so you are never left in the dark as to what to do in order to progress. Basically: Just keep playing, you can NOT ever miss anything (important) and it’ll all make sense later.
2. Destruction: This is where all of the games battles take place. Due to story reasons these have their own category. However they are still linked to everything that happens in Remembrance, so sometimes you will have to clear the battles up to a certain point to be able to continue with a character or vice versa. You can repeat every battle as often and whenever you like or if you should feel the need to grind out more EXP or Metachips, or just to clear some trophies.
3. Analysis: Analysis itself is further divided into two categories: Events and Mystery Files. ‘Events’ lists all of the games story events in chronological order, so this is a good place to check out how some scenes relate to each other or simply to get back into the story after a long break. ‘Mystery Files’ gives you further background details about specific characters, events or items, so check here if you are ever confused about something in particular. Keep in mind that the entry of any particular Mystery File is always expanding right up until the end of the game as you discover more about the story.
Roadmap:

Step 1: Enjoy the Game!
Do yourself the favour and do NOT rush through the story to get the Platinum in the fastest time possible. Vanillaware were able to craft one of the best (game) stories in at least this console generation and you owe it to yourself to experience it in all it’s wonderful 2D glory! Since most of the game’s trophies are tied to story progression with the 13 main characters you basically only have to keep on eye on some of the miscellaneous trophies of the next step to cut down on a bit of clean-up time after the story has concluded, so just take your time and enjoy! 🙂

Having said that, they are a few occurrences during the story that a lot of people seem to have problems with in order to progress, so I will touch upon them briefly –

• Iori Fujusaka – Food Talk (catch the cat): This happens shortly into Iori’s story, when you left the school with Miwako and Tomi and they start about all kinds of different things out in the street. While wandering around, you will see a cat with seemingly no way to get close to/capture it. To actually do it, you have to wait until Miwako and Tomi are through enough of their conversation so can actually talk to Tomi (NOT Miwako!). Once you talk to her, choose the option to go eat some crêpe, which will unlock a Thought Cloud entry about Miwako always bringing some cat food with her. With that knowledge approach the cat again and before it runs away SLOWLY approach Miwako and Tomi again until you get a prompt to call out for them (before getting too far away from the cat for it to run away).
• Yuki Takamija – After you have finished Yuki’s first story arc – Girl With Red Glasses – people tend to get stuck on the retreat of ‘Interviews at Sakura High School’, because they lack the “Tokisaka Shrine” Thought Cloud Entry. To get it, go back to the Field Track teams changing room and check Natsuno’s locker again and especially recall the 2nd entry of her notebook on the Thought Cloud. That should give you the entry and the ability to advance the story.
• Ei Sekigahara – During the ‘DD-426’ event, Ei will be attacked by some androids with seemingly no way to escape. To resolve the situation, simply stay put at the computer (or rather, DO NOTHING) and wait for help to arrive.

At the end of this step you should have (at least) obtained the following trophies:

Analysis: Complete Gold
Unlocked all Mystery Files.

You can find all of your accumulated Mystery Files in the Analysis section of the game.
There are two ways to get more Mystery Files: The first is to simply keep completing character story arcs in Remembrance (so you should get all of these while naturally progressing through the game for Silver All Stories Cleared, the second is to clear the Bonus Objectives during Destruction (see Silver Mission Accomplished.
The former entries, however, have to be unlocked via Mystery Points (which, in turn, you can get by getting a high score during any battle in Destruction) before they can be accessed and before they count towards your Mystery File progression.

Master of the Meal
Ate all possible food on the way back.

This trophy is tied to Iori Fuyusaka’s story path, and her’s alone. Just about every time you start a (new) story arc with Iori, you will be with Miwako and Tomi out on the street, discussing various topics. Simply wait for either of the other girls to start talking about food or engage in their conversations to get the prompts to go and get various food items. Once you have eaten all five, the trophy is yours. Here is a complete list of the food you need to eat and where you can do so:
Food Talk – Soft Serve AND Crêpes (both lead to different story endings, so you will have to replay these event to be able to get both options)
Food Talk 2 – Nikuman OR Hot Dog (You can progress the events after having only eaten one of the foods, so either replay the event OR after having had one food item, wait around the girls until they get hungry AGAIN before advancing the story)
Shopping District, After School 3 – Talk to Tomi and then let Miwako decide which of food to get. Once you’ve had your yakitori, the trophy should be yours!

The Thinker
Consider Thought Cloud entries 100 times.

This will probably come naturally while playing through Remembrance.
To make progress during the game, your character will have often have to think about certain things. This is done by pressing the button and selecting any of the entries that currently occupy the characters mind. Simply consider 100 of these entries and the trophy will pop.
For reference, I got this trophy at roughly 30-40% completion of Remembrance.

Fully-Armed Meta-System upscale-245262160018212
Unlocked all armaments and terminal functions, and enhanced each terminal function.

Like the description says, you have to unlock ALL of the Meta-Systems function, upgrade them to the maximum AND unlock ALL of the Sentinel Armaments for EVERY character (though these do NOT have to upgraded themselves).
As a rule of thumb, it’s best to upgrade the Meta-Systems Level as high as you can and get the upgrades for your Meta-Chip and Score multipliers as early as possible as both of these will help you to get the other upgrades faster. Having said that, you should definitely invest in better armaments for your Sentinels as they get available in order to make the battles easier. See Silver Supreme Defender for some tips as to which Armaments to get.

In One Fell Swoop
Destroyed 150 enemy units with a single Sentinel attack.

This trophy is easier than it may sound, due to two reasons: The further you make it into Destruction, the more enemies you have to fight at once and the stronger your characters/Sentinels, allowing you to more easily clear out massive amounts of enemies in a single attack. Due to this, you will probably get this trophy naturally during the story battles at one point or another.
If you just want to quickly get it out of the way, Ashitaba City – Battle 8 is a good place to get it, as you will face a horde of Worker enemies, which are the weakest and most common enemy type. Bring any 3rd generation Sentinel (Natsuno, Keitaro or Tomi) and load it up with any of their missile attacks, aim for a big cluster of enemies (about 10 seconds into the battle there will be one about west of the Terminal) and let loose.

Mission Accomplished upscale-245262160018212
Completed all objectives in Destruction.

Every battle in the first three areas of Destruction (Ashitaba City, Shibugaki City, Himawari Ward) tasks you with completing a couple of Bonus Objectives, like using only four Sentinels on the Strike Team instead of the usual 6 or bringing a specific pilot into the battle. Clear all of these Bonus Objectives and the trophy will be yours! Remember that it does not matter on what difficulty you on play when you complete these.
See Silver Supreme Defender for further information on how to complete the Bonus Objectives.

Supreme Defender upscale-245262160018212
Earned an S Rank in 30 terminal defense areas.

This is probably the only really “hard” trophy in the game as you actually have to be somewhat good at Destruction to gain this many S-Ranks. However, there are two things that make this really easy still: First, it doesn’t matter what difficulty you play on and second, after you completely clear the story you gain access to the post-game battles which go on into the 1000’s, so you have more than enough opportunity there to either gain so much power that coming back to the story battles will be a cake-walk or simply getting enough S-Ranks there to already have the trophy.
As for actually GETTING an S-Rank in any battle, it all comes down to taking little to no damage between your Sentinels, the Terminal and the city. As a rough guideline, try and stay below a combined 30% damage, as this seems to be the cut-off point for an S-Rank for most battles.

Some basic tips

First Generation Sentinels (Nenji, Takatoshi and Ei):

• These are your front line fighters, as such everybody should always be equipped with Demolisher Blade. Get them close to a high HP and/or armoured enemy and just them shred it to pieces. Be sure to equip Nenji’s passive for boosted attack dmg and range and have Ei move as to the enemy and as far away as possible from the team for his Pilot Skills.
• Always bring EMP skills on them, as those not only allow them to stun enemies and draw their aggro, it also will allow them to attack the now grounded flying units.

Second Generation Sentinels (Juro, Iori and Ryoko):

• These will be mainly support units, dropping all kinds of smaller support units to divert enemy attention and deal damage.
• Sentry Guns are OP. Use and abuse them! (Equip Ryoko’s Hyper Condenser for even more fun)
• Guardian (Avengers) are superb at focusing enemy attention to a single point (and deal damage), so place a few around your perimeter to easily blast them with Reil Guns and other high damage abilities (that only affect a smaller radius).
• Their Plasma Arc Fusion Cutter is one of the most damaging single target abilities, so keep it handy in case a high hp and/or armoured target gets too close to the terminal.

Third Generation Sentinels (Natsuno, Keitaro and Tomi):

• These are your long range support units, with access to the most damaging ability in the game: Super Large Missile. Abuse this armament to get rid of lots of (smaller) enemies in one attack
• Missile Rain is a good alternative to Super Large Missile against hordes of scattered enemies. Just don’t expect to kill all enemies in range, as the abilities damage gets scattered across the field as well.
• Keitaro’s Mega Railgun and Tomi’s Heavy Railgun with her Hyper Condenser can deal lots of damage to enemies in a straight line, so try to clump them up with a Gravity Missile from your Forth Generation Sentinels.
• Try to bring EMP Stunners, as this armament can stun enemies in a HUGE radius around the Sentinel, giving you valuable to breathe and plan your actions should you start to get overwhelmed.

Fourth Generation Sentinels (Megumi, Yuki, Renya and Shu):

• These are flying support units, with lots of different abilities. Since they are flying, the y are not bound by the layout of the map and can move freely wherever they like, able to quickly get into a position from where can lend support to your other Sentinels.
• Interceptors are pretty OP (during the story battles), so bring them!
• Gravity Missiles deal no damage on their own, but they cluster affected enemies REALLY tightly so your other Sentinels can hit them easier with their abilities.
• Flare Torpedoes create a damaging AoE effect where they detonate, able to kill smaller enemies and grind down high HP ones.
• Shield Repair/Matrix makes the affected unit(s) invulnerable for a short while, which is invaluable for your front line fighters like your First Generation Sentinels. Shield them, let them rip and tear for a bit and retreat or re-shield as needed.
• If they ever need to attack themselves (they shouldn’t), their Arm-Mounted Convergent Lasers and Leg Spikes can deal quite a bit of damage. Only use those in emergencies, though, as their other abilities are way too valuable to not use them.
