While Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is a major improvement on the 1st game in gameplay, its story felt lacking and repetitive in some ways. Here is our Alan Wake’s American Nightmare Review!
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is developed by Remedy Entertainment and it was published by Xbox. It came out for PC and Xbox back in 2012. Unlike Alan Wake, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is not so much a horror but more an action game.
The Story of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is about the main character Alan Wake that is stuck inside of a TV show/time loop while an evil dark clone of him tried to kill Alan and stop him from bringing the light out. Every time Alan gets close to solving the mystery, the time loop puts him back at the start of the game, but the side characters keep remembering more and more every time it happens and help him on his journey.
While the time loop aspect is a cool idea, it just gets kinda boring after a while, not the story itself, but just doing the same thing over and over again. Every time resets you just have to do the same thing again, after the 1st time I was a bit confused and actually wanted to put the game down. All 3 times you have to do it doesn’t really help enjoy the game more, in fact, it kinda works against the game in some ways.
This spin-off really improved on what I would have wanted to see in Alan Wake more and that is open-world. The world of Alen Wake’s American Nightmare is a lot more open and gives you 3 different areas to explore. They are not that big but it was still a lot more fun to walk around in than the linear path you follow in Alan Wake.
Side-content is kinda lacking in the game, the only type of collectibles you can find are manuscript pages and it has this awful horde mode. In the horde mode, you will need to survive for 10 minutes long, that’s basically it, nothing else to it. Other than some achievements there isn’t really a reason to play that mode.
