Introduction:

Welcome to the Alone In The Dark Trophy Guide!
In the scenic world of New Orleans, there is a dark secret waiting to swallow you whole. Join Detective Edward Carnby and Miss Emily Hartwood on a journey into the Darkness… Will you be able to come back?

Roadmap:

Step 1: Welcome to the Dark
This stage is interchangeable with the other, as you will need to play through both characters’ campaigns to gain 100%. We would recommend starting the game with Edward Carnby as he is the character most people will know from Alone In The Dark; however, it is always down to who you would like to play as first. There isn’t much in the way of differences until the late game between the characters. Edward has a case which is related to Grace, whereas Emily has a chilling sequence in the Trenches of WW1.

The trophies which you will earn no matter who you play as should be as follows:

  • The Thin Veneer of Civilisation
  • Now You’re On the Trolley!
  • On The Mend
  • Welcome to Derceto
  • In Between There Are Doors
  • Left Holding the Bag
  • Found & Lost
  • Somewhere Else Entirely
  • Drop Me Off In New Orleans
  • Losing My Mind
  • Where I Belong
  • Where Therapy Makes It Worse
  • The Past as a Present
  • Frenzy
  • Back to Normal
  • Hard Boiled
  • Gangster

While these are the common things which you will do throughout your campaign, regardless of playing as Edward or Emily, both have some things which are limited only to them. Edwards are listed below, since Stage 1 will be treated as you playing as Edward:

  • I Stole the Child and Let Him Drown

The following are Edward-related but are obtained through different methods, which are highlighted;

  • Case Closed
    • Complete the game in the standard way for Edward Carnby
  • One Of The Thousand Young
    • Complete the game after collecting the “A Goat Without Horns” Lagniappe Set and offering it to the Wishing Tree.

For the purpose of the guide, this will be treated as the Edward Carnby playthrough, meaning that you will deviate and play through the Grace Storyline in Chapter 4.

Step 2: Re-enter the Dark
So you completed the game as one character, now you need to replay the game as the other character. You should have a grasp of where to go other than the limited sequences. Really, there isn’t much to this run than that, just go through the game and clear up all that you weren’t able to do on your first run. You should take special care to aim for I Don’t Got All Night, which asks you to complete the game in under 3 hours. This isn’t a difficult task, but it’s still something to aim for in order to reduce your playthroughs.

While the common trophies, which you will earn, are outlined in Step 1: Welcome to the Dark, and the focus of that stage is on Edward Carnby, this stage focuses on Emily Hartwood. Below are Emily’s exclusive trophies:

  • I Abandoned Him

Likewise, for Edward, Emily has some trophies which are obtained through different means:

  • Safe and Sound
    • Complete the game in the standard way for Emily Hartwood
  • Radical Acceptance
    • Complete the game after collecting the “Dying With Dignity” Laginappe set. Interact with the paint thinner in Dr. Gray’s Private quarters and then submit to the Dark Man after beating Jacob.

For the purpose of the guide, this will be treated as the Emily Hartwood playthrough, meaning that you will deviate and play through the Hartwood Storyline in Chapter 4.

During this step you’ll earn these trophies:

An Honest Day’s Work
Watch Out Where You’re Waving That Thing
Bonfire Night
Hard Boiled
Gangster
You Can’t keep Me Out!
I Don’t Got All Night
I Abandoned Him
What Just Happened?
Nobody Knows What Happened
Chatterbox
Librarian
Safe and Sound
Look At All the Free Stuff I Got!
Teetotaller

Step 3: End of the Madness
This section is only needed to help you clean up the game and obtain anything you have missed along the way. The only things that might be missed are the Time Sensitive trophy, I Don’t Got All Night, and the collection-related, which you should be well on the way to finishing if you haven’t already after your previous two runs.

This stage, unlike the other 2 will see you finishing the game as stated, however, there is a focus. This focus is on completing the 5th secret ending and obtaining both Teetotaller and I Don’t Got All Night. The 5th Secret ending is for Grace, and like the other Secret endings;

  • One Of The Thousand Young
  • Radical Acceptance

requires you to complete a Lagniappe set in order to trigger talking to her at the Wishing Tree in Chapter 5, in order to obtain; What Just Happened?

The 12 trophies below are the ones which you should have worked on and probably even completed by this point; however, the 2 which are the most troublesome are;

  • I Don’t Got All Night
  • Teetotaller

During this step you’ll earn the following trophies:

Alone in the Dark
Whatever It Takes
Come At Me!
An Honest Day’s Work
Watch Out Where You’re Waving That Thing
Hard Boiled
Gangster
You Can’t Keep Me Out!
Chatterbox
Librarian
Look At All the Free Stuff I got!
Teetotaller

Tips and Strategies:

Notes & Important Information:

NOTE:
This guide Has Spoilers!
The game is a Psychological horror adventure that involves messing with the mind. Although it isn’t all that bad, it has some gruesome moments in the late game.

Controls:

Although the game is played from a third-person perspective, the game itself has a few modifications to the control system. The biggest of all is the control mapping for puzzles, which are always highlighted in the bottom Left Corner of the screen. Below, you can find the control mapping for how you can play the game.

Costumes and differences:

While you can play the game as it is intended, you can also utilise the post-launch and Pre-Order content, which is the 1992 costume. This isn’t really necessary, just a nice addition to the game.

You can apply the costume in the options menu under Extras.

Difficulty Guidance:

Within your adventure, there are 2 important modes to know about: the first is Difficulty, and the second is how much guidance you would like while playing through the game. While difficulty is straightforward, covering:

EasyTake it easy and focus more on the story
StandardThe Standard Experience, with its intended difficulty
HardFor an Extra Challenge. Monsters are harder, and resources are Scarce.
New Game+Additional challenges and continue with what you had at the end of the completed game.

There is also a setting to pick how much you want the game to guide you through events to the conclusion, which are:

ModernExtra help is provided to make the experience smoother and easier. Including hints and helpful highlights
Old SchoolFor those who want to figure out everything for themselves. No extra systems to guide the player.

While this is a nice feature, the game is easy enough that you don’t need to worry about the guidance as such, but because the difficulty doesn’t matter, it is probably better to play in Easy with Modern assistance.

NOTE:

You do NOT need to play through your second playthrough in New Game+; you can select one of the standard difficulties, as you will be switching character.

Puzzles:

Throughout your adventure in Alone In The Dark 2024, you will have to solve a variety of puzzles, the biggest are some brainteasers which act as locks or safe combinations. While all safes are outlined in Look At All The Free Stuff I Got!, as for the other locks, you will need to work out the zodiac puzzle. In addition to this, there are some other puzzles which can be tricky, like the Boiler Room or Clock Tablet. It should be noted that the Safes below are included in the Collection video located under Look At All The Free Stuff I Got!. However, the image and combination below can be used to help you speed up your attempt for I Don’t Got All Night.

Tips:

  • Just because you have completed one campaign, don’t expect the puzzles to all be the same. Please refer to the section on Puzzles above.
  • You don’t need to kill enemies; save your ammo.
  • There are plenty of healing and ammo.
  • You can play the game in Easy Difficulty
  • You DO NOT need to recollect all the collectables from your first character’s playthrough.
  • Collection Items are separated into different types: some persistent, some unique, and some which are independent collections.
  • There are 3 firearms in the game and numerous melee weapons. Please refer to Come At Me!
  • There are 5 chapters, however, the bulk of the game is contained in Chapters 2 – 4.
  • In order to complete the game, you DO NOT need to actually beat the end boss. While that sounds deceptive and confusing, there are 5 endings. 2 are the same but character dependent, 1 is a dream state, and 2 are submissions to the nightmare.
  • Once you have played through your first playthrough, you can start a New Game as opposed to New Game+.
  • You can make a manual save at points to help you through parts, like the different endings, provided you have the requirements. Edwards Manual Save should be made once you make it to Chapter 5, whereas Emily’s Manual Save should be made in Chapter 4 before confronting Jacob. This will give the best options for completing the 5 different endings. Please refer to them for more information.

Trophy Guide:

Alone in the Dark
All Trophies

With the pact broken and Derceto left in ruins, take this as a reward for your efforts.

The Thin Veneer of Civilization
Break through a Barrier

Unmissable

This trophy is awarded for breaking a barrier which blocks your path. The earliest you can do this is Chapter 2, when you are in the oil fields, they appear as red painted wood.

The above-illustrated one is the first you will encounter; all you need to do is attack it with a melee weapon, and when it breaks, the trophy is yours.

Whatever It Takes
Kill a monster with an opportunity

An opportunity is a special method of defeating a monster, this could be killing a spider with a thrown weapon or something of the like. Below is a video showing the easiest way the author found to achieve this.

As the video highlights, if you shoot with your base gun and then throw 2 rocks at the enemy, you should kill them and have it count as an opportunity kill.

Come At Me!
Kill a monster with a melee weapon

Missable

Although this is tagged with Missible, that is only really applicable if you do not use Melee weapons and just rely on your Ranged.

The earliest you can achieve this is in the first madness sequence, in the streets of New Orleans, after investigating Jeremy’s room. You are transported to a New Orleans street that is covered in fog and has monsters roaming. All you need to do is find one of the many melee weapons the game has, of which there is a list of some of them below, and use it on a monster to kill it. You can do this using the R1 Button, either pressing or holding.

Weapon:Image Reference:
Pipe
Hatchet
Fire poker
Oar
Pick Axe
Sledge Hammer
Egypt Axe
Ice Axe

NOTE:

The above table doesn’t show all the melee weapons within the game, only the ones which were easy to come by.

Now You’re On the Trolley!
Kill a monster with a ranged weapon

Unmissable

This one isn’t a hard trophy, and you can obtain it in the first madness sequence, which is the Streets of New Orleans, when you leave Jeremy’s room. Head down the stairs into the street, and you will see a monster at the end of the alley. Simply aim you’re gun with the L2 Button and shoot with the R2 Button. They will probably take 2 shots to the head in order to kill them, or a few more to the body or limbs.

On the Mend
Put a talisman socket back together

Story

This trophy is awarded for completing the Clock puzzle. This is in Chapter 2 and will require you to complete some prerequisites, namely collecting the clock tablets, of which there are 2. One is located in Perosi’s room, and the other is located in the outer garden. In order to get them, you need a code for the cabinet in Perosi’s room (Please refer to the Puzzles section of the Tips & Strategies) and solve the water puzzle in the garden.

Perosi’s room cabinet:

This will require you to work out what zodiac symbol you need to use in order to unlock the cabinet, think of the locks in Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. To make it easier, the code is located below as well as in the Tips & Strategies section. However, the way you work it out is by using the paintings on the wall next to the door. Using these, you will need to look for the Rot pattern and cross-reference the name with the Family portrait behind the bed. When you get an answer, look at the Clue, Perosi’s Journal, to find out the corresponding Zodiac Sign, then head to the lock and enter the code.

The Outer Garden:

Outside the conservatory, once you have the bolt cutters, you will be able to open the shed near the ladder. Once open, there is a water hose on the floor. Grab it, and head over to the angel statue. If you need to, use the orange water hose to guide you, which leads to the point. Hook the hose up to the end of the one which is already there, and follow it back to the tap. Turn the tap on and head back to the hole where you just placed the hose to find a bucket has risen with the other tablet.

With both tablets, return to the clock on the balcony floor and interact. The pattern is shown below, but you need to make the design a coherent design using the big circle as the centre tile. Once you have, entered the code, 643. This code is shown on the clock faces. Upon entering it, you will earn the trophy.

I Don’t Got All Night
Finish the game in 3 hours or less

Time Limited

Beating the game within 3 hours isn’t a hard task and will likely happen naturally once you know what to do, however, there are things you can do to make this easier, which are listed below.

  • Play on Easy
  • Emily Hartwood has a slightly shorter campaign. (There isn’t much in it)
  • Evade all battles
  • Don’t aim for the big boss, you can complete the game by submitting to the Dark Man at the end of Chapter 4 (Emily Exclusive). Please refer to Radical Acceptance for more information.
  • If you play as Edward, then you will have the option to finish the game in Chapter 5 by embracing the call from the Wishing Tree. Please refer to One of the Thousand Young for more information.
  • Irrespective of character, and if you don’t want to use the Radical Acceptance (as Emily), or One of the Thousand Young (As Edward), consider using the What Just Happened? (Grace Ending).
  • Failing all the above highlighted endings, you will have to face The Black Goat. It’s not so tough, but please refer to either Case Closed or Safe and Sound for more information.
  • Try this once you have completed the Collection, or in your second run of the game with the other character, if you feel confident.
  • Know the puzzle solutions.
  • Save at the start of each chapter. (This will be your safety net, as well as let you manually track time)

With all that in mind, there is a video below of the run with Emily, although the author made some errors, it was easy to achieve this well within the 3 hours.

An Honest Day’s Work
Play for more than 8 hours

Unlike I Donโ€™t Got All Night, this trophy is the Tortoise, you are asked to play for a total of 8 hours. This is cumulative across all play, so you should obtain it through natural progression.

Welcome to Derceto
Break into Derceto

Story

This is awarded once you have picked your character and made it into Derceto from the garden. You will need to get the garden gate key from where the lantern is to get you into the outer garden, and then the servants’ quarters key to get you into the building, which is found in a broken plant pot near the big tree.

In BetweenThere Are Doors
Find your own talisman

Story

Upon heading into the streets of New Orleans, you will need to find your way back to Derceto. In order to do this, you will need to head to the shop at the end of the street, where you will meet Batiste, who will also give you a key. Now with the key in hand, head out of the store and down the street to where the headlights are. You will encounter monsters here, so be warned. When you reach the headlights, make a right and go down the street a little bit past the halfway point. You should see a locked red gate on your left; the Key Batiste gave you will unlock this gate. Progress through the gate and encounter an enemy who breaks down another gate, go past him and up the stairs and round the walkway to the far door. Go through the door and to the bookshelf at the back to find the talisman. Take it to the table in the middle of the room and interact. Enter the following code: 358. This will show you a location, and all you need to do is head over to the door in the back to head back to Derceto and get the trophy.

This will also end Chapter 1.

Left Holding the Bag
Find Jeremy’s Bag

Story

On solving the clock puzzle, you will head into the corridor where Jeremy’s room is, head down the corridor a little way, and the lights go out, and the second room door will creak open. Head into this room to find that you are no longer in Derceto. The area isn’t too difficult to navigate. Once you have turned off the Oil Pump and ziplined to safety, you will need to walk around the new area, meet a monster, and proceed to a mound. When the cutscenes are finished, you will be back in Derceto with Jeremy’s bag and the trophy.

Found & Lost
Talk to Jeremy in the Chapel

Story

Once you have solved the Boiler room puzzle, you will head to a cemetery. This area is a short one, but it has a lot of enemies. The idea of this area is to use some plates with some designs on to open doors. Upon getting all 3 plates and returning to the central Mausoleum, you will need to use all 3 plates to open it. Below is an image reference;

On opening the door, you will get a cutscene before returning to Derceto and getting the trophy.

Somewhere Else Entirely
Find the Convent of Taroella

Story

To enter Taroella, you will need to use the telescope once you return from the cemetery. In order to do this, you need to head to Jeremy’s room and open his travel truck with the key you get from the Mausoleum. Here you will find a telescope lens, which you will need to take to the Lounge. Once in the Lounge, take an immediate right, and you should see a telescope. Enter the lens and use the Left Joystick to control the focusing.

Adjust the focusLeft Stick: Left & Right
Adjust the zoomLeft Stick: Up & Down

When you see something that looks like solid constellations of white colour, one star should be highlighted bigger and brighter than the others. When you get it perfect, that star will pulse. This will push you out of the telescope, and the room will look like a ruin. Look to the back wall where there is a black panel, interacting with it will present you with a minigame where you need to make the constellation. When you complete the puzzle, you will be given a code, and the talisman will automatically code it in. This will show you the Dining Room, heading there and going to the door leading to the performance Hall will take you to Taroella.

This will also end Chapter 2.

Drop Me Off In New Orleans
Escape the Dark Man

Story

The Dark Man is a pharaoh, and despite what you’re thinking, Mexico has an evil Pharaoh. With that out of the way, the Dark Man will first appear in Taroella’s library once you have the key. He won’t “directly” attack you, so you don’t need to actually worry about a battle while you’re running away. He will have a black cloud of smoke, which will make your screen go monochrome, and if you go too close to him, he will kill you. The idea of this section is just to escape him, you do this by using the key to unlock the ladder locks until you get up to the 3rd floor. On getting to the 3rd floor, the Dark Man won’t pursue you, but you will need to get into the elevator and interact with the book, which will start a cutscene.

Losing My Mind
Walk into the Desert

Story

After escaping Taroella and the Dark Man, you will be sent to the shipping company, where you will learn that the sarcophagus was shipped to an address conveniently across the street. Head over there and up the stairs to find Jeremy, who will tell you about a way to break the contract, before running off. The code to the sarcophagus is 258. This will open the tomb to reveal a pathway which opens in a desert, which is in a solar eclipse. On stepping onto the desert, the trophy will unlock.

Where I Belong
Return to Derceto

Story

This will be awarded upon getting the contract with the Dark Man from the Sunken Desert Tomb. In order to get the contract, you will need to clear the tomb by bouncing light to some receptacles around the tomb and then race to the ground floor in front of the statue to pick it up. On doing so, a cutscene will play, transporting you back to Derceto and unlocking this trophy.

I Abandoned Him
Own up to your awful past

Story – Emily

This is an Emily Hartwood Storyline for Chapter 4. In this storyline, you will learn the fate of Emily’s betrothed and need to do some things, which are;

  • Unlock the Safe in Patient Room 6 in Derceto

  • Head through the Trenches of WW1 to find John.
  • Restore Power to the Morgue in Derceto
  • Arrange the Blueprints of Derceto
  • Escape the Disused Repository

These are the rough stages which need to be completed in order to earn the trophy, and upon leaving, the trophy will unlock.

I Stole the Child and Let Him Drown

  • Grab the Treasure Map from Dr. Gray’s Office in Derceto
  • Unlock the Safe in Patient Room 6 in Derceto
  • Unlock the Air Vent in MacCarfey’s Room in Derceto
  • Head to Grace’s Room and solve the Picture Puzzle
  • Workout Carnby’s case file
  • Follow the Red String
  • Investigate the Hotel Room
  • Talk to Grace on the Bridge
  • Raise the Bridge
  • Use the boat to save the drowning people

These are the rough stages which need to be completed in order to earn the trophy, and upon leaving, the trophy will unlock.

When Therapy Makes It Worse
Break through the barriers of self-deceit

Story

This is awarded for completing the sequence on the Paddle Steamer. You can do this by completing the events which lead you to the attic, the stages are;

  • Head to the basement
  • Restore the power
  • Find the 2 missing brain scans
  • Solve the brain scan puzzle
  • Leave the Basement
  • Escape the Flood & Enter the Attic
  • Open Jeremy’s luggage
  • Solve the Self-Deceit idol
  • Input the code: 641
  • Descend into the Paddle Steamer
  • Head to the top deck
  • Progress to the right side of the Steamer
  • Descend the Paddle to access the engine
  • Re-oil the engine
  • Work your way to the left foredeck
  • Descend the escape boat
  • Restart the engine

These are the rough stages which you will need to complete in order to earn the trophy. After starting the engine, a cut scene will start, and upon regaining control in Derceto, the trophy will be awarded.

The Past as a Present
Get what you want

Story

This trophy is awarded once you break into Dr. Gray’s private quarters. In order to do this, you will need to do some prerequisites, which include completing When Therapy Makes It Worse. Once you have done this, you will be locked into where you are going and not be able to deviate from the given path. Derceto’s locked doors will lead you to Dr. Gray’s private quarters from his office. When you enter and take control of the character you picked, the trophy will unlock.

Frenzy
Enter hell

Story

This trophy is awarded on completing the section in Dr. Gray’s private room. All you need to do in this section is;

  • Pick up the Fake Book
  • Use the Fake Book to reveal the secret
  • Get the furniture key
  • Open the wardrobe
  • Answer the phone
  • Input the coordinate on the talisman
  • Enter the wardrobe

These are the rough stages that you will need to complete in order to get to Hell. When you take control in hell, you will need to progress until you get to the camp in order to unlock the trophy.

Back to Normal
Break the Pact with the Dark Man

Story

Upon entering Hell, you will be in a snowstorm and need to navigate your way through. Thankfully, you are given a flare gun to help you through the storm. Once you make it above the storm, you will be climbing a path to a machine. When you get to the top, you will be greeted by Jacob, who will be hostile to you. This isn’t a difficult battle, all he will do is move to your location and swing his Ice axe, kill him with whatever method you would like and head up to the machine. Interacting will need you to solve a constellation puzzle before having to battle Jacob yet again. This time, he looks more like a Necromorph from Dead Space. His attack patterns are swing-based, which are horizontal and vertical. They should be easy to avoid. The difference with this phase is that after so much damage is dealt to Jacob, he will go to the ground, and you will need to run up and stab him. This is done on 3 different occasions. When you finally beat him, a cutscene will play and your trophy will unlock.

NOTE:

During the later phase of the battle with Jacob, you can damage him while he is recovering from being stabbed. Take this opportunity to lay into him while he can’t defend himself.

Case Closed
Save New Orleans from the Black Goat

Story

For both of these trophies, you will be required to complete the game in the same way with each character. The Black Goat is referring to the Wishing Tree. This happens in Chapter 5, and despite who you play as, this is the default ending where Jeremy is saved, the people of Derceto are massacred, Grace is spared, and the evil of the bayou is killed.
In order to do this, just play the game until Chapter 5, when you enter Chapter 5, walk down to the fountain to wait for your partner. After the cutscene, you will need to follow after the tree and battle it. The battle isn’t too hard. When you start, you will be on the mezzanine floor, where all it can do to you is Whip and spray acid at you. If you stay by the opening in the wall where you came in, you should be safe from any hit. After dealing a bit of damage, it will destroy the floor, and you will be knocked down to the ground. Here is where the fun begins. The idea doesn’t change; to damage it, you need to shoot the little Spores all over its body. When you are up top, they are on the forehead of the monster; on the ground, they are on the many legs and the main body. The downside to being on the ground is that it will spawn minions, so you will have to deal with the boss and the minions. Upon beating the boss and getting to the credits, the trophy is yours.

Below you can find a video highlighting the boss battle and the normal ending for both characters.

Alone in the Dark (2024): Case Closed Trophy

Alone in the Dark (2024): Safe and Sound Trophy

Safe and Sound
Save New Orleans from the Black Goat

Story

Please refer to Case Closed for more information.

Dont Mind If I Do
Finish a Lagniappe set

Collection

Please refer to Look At All The Free Stuff I Got! for more information.

Watch Out Where You’re Waving That Thing
Aim your gun at a human being

This trophy is regarded as missible as there aren’t very many opportunities where you have a “Living Human” with you, the only opportunities are;

  • Jeremy’s Room – Emily Hartwood/ Edward Carnby
  • New Orleans Shop – Batiste
  • Derceto Messina Floor/ Derceto Reading Room – Ruth
  • Outside Grace’s Room – MacCarfrey
  • Edward Exclusive – Bayou Bridge – Grace
  • Derceto Conservatory – All but the other character

These are the only times when you can actually attempt this trophy since they are the only parts where you will have another living human whom you can point your gun at. In order to do the trophy, all you need to do is aim with the R2 Button at any human. It is recommended to do this in Jeremy’s Room at the beginning of the game since it is the easiest place to do it.

NOTE:

You can NOT aim your weapon in the Derceto Conservatory during Chapter 5 when every resident of Derceto is present.

What Just Happened?
Give Grace a present

This trophy is related to completing a Lagniappe set; the one in question is “All The World’s A Stage“. For more in-depth information about where to find them and the like, please refer to Look At All The Free Stuff I Got!. Below, you can find a rough overview of what is needed once you have collected the 3 Lagniappe needed.

  • Toy Talisman
  • Box of Biscuits
  • Curious Napkin

Once you have obtained them, you will need to get to Chapter 5, since that is the only time when you can interact with Grace outside of Cutscenes. All you need to do is give her the Lagniappe set and get a secret ending. Below is a video outlining this.

Nobody Knows What Happened
Consider ending it all

For this trophy, you will need to collect the Lagniappe set, “The Hartwood Curse“. Below are the Lagniappe, which you will need to collect to complete the set.

  • Alone in the Dark
  • Witness the Black Pharaoh
  • Discarded Palette

Upon completing the set, head up to the attic. If you head to the left side, you will see a big round window with a noose hanging from one of the roof struts. All you need to do is interact with it, watch the cutscene, and the trophy is yours. Below is a video for reference.

Radical Acceptance
Submit to the Dark Man

Story/ Missable – Emily

This trophy is related to Emily Hartwood and will require you to complete some prerequisites. The biggest one of these is that you will be required to complete the Lagniappe Set “Dying With Dignity“, which includes the following Lagniappe;

  • War Photo
  • Sheet Music
  • Toe Tag

Back in Chapter 1, Emily gets a painting of Jeremy, which he himself painted. If you are playing as Emily, during Chapter 4, you will be able to interact with the chemicals in Dr Gray’s private room. This will change the painting and show you that there is another way to finish the game. From here, you will need to beat Jacob and complete Hell. Now, during the cutscene where Emily is returned to Derceto and the Dark Man follows her onto the landing, you will want to pay attention. During this cutscene, the camera will go down low and look up at Emily. In addition to this, there will be a button in the Bottom Left Corner of the Screen, as seen in the image below.

As the image highlights, for the author, the Left Joystick was used, moving it to the Left. For you, it might be different, it is important to keep that in mind and not to anticipate. Below is a video showing this, for reference.

Story/ Missable – Edward

This trophy is related to Edward Carnby and will require you to complete some prerequisites, including completing a Lagniappe set. This set is called “A Goat Without Horns“, which consists of:

  • Profane Totem
  • Preserved Reptile
  • Jangling Shaker

Once you have completed this set, all you need to do is continue this trophy in Chapter 5.  In Chapter 5, you will just need to head to the back of the Wishing Tree and interact. This will place the Lagniappe set, that’s all you need to do here, next go and wait for Emily. During this next cutscene, you will get the option to take a different route. When Emily shoots Batiste, shortly after, Edward looks up at Emily. In this sequence, you can use the Left Joystick and move it in the highlighted direction from the Bottom Left Corner of the screen. Below is an image.

As is highlighted, for the author, moving the Left Joystick Right was used. This might be different for you, so it is important to keep that in mind and not anticipate. Below is a video showing this, for reference;

Bonfire Night
Kill an enemy with fire

Killing with fire can be done using a throwable. During the shipping company sequence, you will be able to find bottles with rags hanging out of the top like the image below.

All you need to do is throw it at an enemy. You will know when you are throwing it at an enemy rather than to distract an enemy by the targeting system changing.  Below is an example of what you are looking for.

Distracting:Targeting:

With this in mind, just target the enemy and throw the bottle; it should explode in a ball of fire. If you don’t hit the enemy, then there is just a splash of flammable liquid. Once you hit the enemy, you will just need to wait for the fire to kill off the enemy.

Hard Boiled
Kill an enemy with shotgun

The shotgun is obtained once you have completed the sequence where you obtain the Bolt Cutters; the Gun case on the wall in Derceto will be unlocked, and you will be able to take it for your adventure. Progress through until you meet your next enemies and use the shotgun on them, they should die to one blast from the shotgun, since it is a scattershot weapon, you don’t even need to be precise. You will only have 2 shells at this point, so use them wisely, however, there are shells scattered around to find easily. For reference, there is an image below showing the Shotgun Location.

Gangster
Kill an enemy with Tommy gun

The Tommy Gun is obtained in the Foreman’s Office during the Dock section of the game, once you return from Taroella and have obtained Drop Me Off in New Orleans. All you need to do is head down the stairs and cut down the group of enemies who burst through the door with your new automatic weapon.

Collection

This is actually where all the time in the game will be spent, there are a total of 159 collectables which span 2 characters.

  • Firstly, it is important to know you DO NOT need to recollect collection items you have previously collected.
  • Secondly, say you play as Edward in your first playthrough and collect all the collectables you can, you will NOT earn the trophies until you play as Emily.

With that noted, the collectables are broken down as such;

  • Clues: 56
  • Keys & Locks: 30
  • Chats: 28
  • Lagniappe: 45 (15 Sets)

With that stated, there is something else to be aware of, which is how many of each collection item is locked to character-specific.

Collectable Item:Edward Amount:Emily Amount:
Clues46
Locks23
Chats1414
Lagniappe34

With that evaluated, we can have a look at what chapters the collection is in, while this isn’t essential, it is nice to keep an eye on what is in each chapter to assist in tracking things which aren’t tracked within the game. That being said, the Lagniappe are the only tracked item within the game, so everything else will need to be tracked by you.

Story/ Missable

This trophy isn’t all that hard, considering what it is actually asking you is NOT to heal throughout the entire playthrough. While that sounds like a challenge, do keep in mind that you will be able to play the game in Easy and make manual saves. The basic idea is that you never press the Up Button on the D-Pad, which will heal you. Below is a reference to what the healing items are in the game.

As you can see, the healing items are Wisky bottles, and are indicated with a little medical icon. In order to complete the conditions for this trophy, you need to never use the Up Button on the D-Pad, as previously stated, and you can see an illustration on the HUD below:

With that stated, there are a few parts of the game which prove troublesome to get through without sustaining damage or keeping track of all the enemies.

  • New Orleans Streets – Guy hiding around the corner where the first one is
  • New Orleans Streets – At the Voodoo Store, there are 3 guys. 1 breaks down the gate, 1 guy is at the top of the stairs moving towards you, and the 3rd is hiding around the corner at the top of the stairs.
  • Cemetery – On your way to the second Disk, you will come to a water area, where there is a guy who will attack from behind you.
  • Cemetery – Once you have opened the second door, you will need to rush through some catacombs where several enemies will spawn. The way through this is to rush through and ignore the enemies, keep to the left to get through once through the puddle.
  • Docks – The door to the Dock office has a standard enemy who jumps through the door
  • Docks – Once you use the crane, there are 3 enemies who come up from the sewer. In addition to this, there are 3 enemies who spawn behind you when you get on the stairs.
  • Docks – There are 6 enemies who burst through the warehouse door once you have opened the safe. Although these 6 are grouped together, and make a perfect target for burning or your Thompson, they can rush in, and the numbers make them troublesome.
  • The Sunken Desert Temple – This one refers to all the flying creatures that spawn throughout the level and will keep following you until you kill them.
  • The Sunken Desert Temple – Once you use the second-floor light to open the door to the right of the statue, you will need to head over there. When you get to the door, 2 enemies will spawn.
  • New Orleans – Edward – Upon reaching the stolen artwork and listening to the memory, an enemy will break through the wall.
  • New Orleans – Edward – Shortly after leaving the apartment where the stolen artwork is located, you come to a stealth section. While this isn’t too bad, there a 3 enemies who are hidden in the water and don’t react till you are close.
  • New Orleans – Edward – Once you catch up with the thread at the crashed car, you will be ambushed by 2 enemies, and a 3rd will come in after to break the gate down.
  • New Orleans – Edward – On the bridge, when you are trying to raise it, you will be attacked by a lot of flying enemies.
  • Steamer – Throughout this level, you have some spider-like creatures which can be hard to see below the camera area.
  • World War 1 Trenches – Emily – During this section, you will encounter the monster you first met in the swamp area, which will be hunting you around the Trenches. Although the game wants you to sneak around the environment going slowly, you can sprint and dodge past it more easily. While this is the better option, he does some nasty damage to you if you get hit, so keep it in mind.
  • World War 1 Trenches – Emily – Once you temporarily leave the Trenches and head to no man’s land, you will see a tree on the right and a building on the left. There is an enemy who appears from behind the building.

The following are only warnings because of the damage, and as they are “scripted” encounters, they are technically Unmissable, but the damage can mess up the run for you.

  • Hell – Jacob is the boss of this area and the only enemy within the area. While he is pretty easy to beat, you don’t want to be caught off guard by his second phase. The second part of this battle turns Jacob into a monster with greater reach and slightly greater speed. Please refer to Back to Normal for information.
  • The Black Goat – This is the end boss of the game and has two phases. There is a mezzanine floor battle where it can’t attack much, only whipping and spraying acid, then there is the ground floor battle. The mezzanine isn’t too bad, all you need to do is hide in the corner where you spawned into the battle and shoot at the Spores on The Black Goat, it’s advised to use your shotgun as there is ammo right next to you, so it’s easy to restock. The ground floor is where the damage comes. The way you battle is the same, but this time you will be around its feet, and to make matters worse, it will spawn minions. The minions are what you will need to look out for, not necessarily the Black Goat itself.

That should be all the encounters which might catch you off guard. It should be noted that you can actually skip the battle with The Black Goat by going for one of the 3 secret endings. Below is a breakdown of the endings (Please refer to the trophy for more information);

  •  What Just Happened?
  •  Radical Acceptance
  •  One of the Thousand Young

While this is a valid option to end the game and earn the trophy easily, and without having to fight The Black Goat, you can only do this if you have a set of the Lagniappe. You can find what they are as outlined in the specific ending trophy and where to find them in Look At All the Free Stuff I Got!.

NOTE & DISCLAIMER:

The author did this trophy on their first run and deliberately let their health drop to a single hit of death, see the image below showing the health. This is highly, not advised, and you will get a better result from attempting this when you know what you are doing. Please keep this in mind.

Overall, the best way to get this trophy is in your speed run, as outlined in I Don’t Got All Night. The reason for this advisory method is that the speed run is devised on the premise that you will avoid all combat encounters, except Jacob and 2 or 3 little enemies whom you can’t avoid. This means that any damage you take in this run would not be healed.
