Antstream Arcade Preview – Gamescom 2024

Antstream Arcade is a service with a ton of retro games where you pay a monthly fee (or a lifetime licence) to get access to all games available on the platform. Here is our Antstream Arcade Preview.

At Gamescom, we got invited by the kind people over at Antstream Arcade to talk about the service to understand it better and to talk about what is in store for them in the future, and one of these things just released recently, a version of the service for PlayStation.

We mainly talked about understanding the service better, because for us, there were a lot of question marks behind what the service actually is and how it worked, so that’s also what we will mainly be talking about today. So what is Antstream Arcade? Well, I can compare it to Game Pass, you pay a monthly subscription and get access to over 1000+ games from popular publishers back in the day. You can also pay a 1 time fee to get a lifetime pass so you are not stuck to a monthly sub.

There really are so many games on there that I didn’t know about and heavy hitters are still joining the platform as well like Worms Armageddon. It even covers so many platforms as well like the PS1, NES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, Atari, and of course Arcade titles. Some of them even get an update for the service where they add time trails and challenges. With over 1300 games there really is something for everyone.

They also hold tournaments every week, add achievements to games, add leaderboards, and do so much more to give people a reason to play these classics. Some games even get bug fixes, something that was of course not possible back in the day. There is only 1 “but”… it’s all fully cloud-based, so you do need to have an internet connection to play the games, luckily, due to how small the games are in size due to how old they are, there is basically no delay or input lag at all, you almost wouldn’t even know its cloud-based, that’s how good the quality is.

In the end, it is a streaming service, so games might leave the library, but this luckily barely happens, this is mainly due to how old the games are and the owners of the games don’t really have any other use for them, so it’s super nice that publishers support Antstream in this way as well to keep these games playable and accessible for a big audience. and the audience sure is big, the service is available basically everyone, from phones to consoles to PC, it really is everywhere you can think of and play, which is a nice plus as well.

We really recommend trying it out wherever you can, but for PC, it sadly is not available on steam, I do remember talking about it, but what the answer was, I kinda forgot, but I think it was due to being a subscription service. It will come to steam at a later date, so you can always wait but the game is also on Epic Games! so check it out there! The future looks bright for the service, and while the service is already amazing, they are still working on making it even better.
