Crimson Desert Preview – Gamescom 2025

Crimson Desert is an upcoming open-world adventure game created by the studio behind the amazing Black Desert Online, but this time it’s a single-player experience.

Pearl Abyss has invited us back to come check out Crimson Desert again at Gamescom. Last year, Mike went, so I had a fresh perspective and could finally understand what he was talking about when he went last year.

Crimson Desert is a fun experience, but it has its flaws, which I will get into later. Overall, it was a fun game to play with the time I had and the mission I played. The specific mission I played had me do a tutorial, which was honestly much needed, and then I got right into the action. I got sent to take down fields of enemies like it was a Warriors game, and it felt pretty satisfying to get some good combinations in. Sometimes it did feel a bit much, and I wasn’t sure if i was required to go to my objectives slaying or just running past them, because there really were a ton of enemies, and it felt like i was fighting this massive army on my own, so after a while, i just ran past a lot of enemies on my trusted horse.

The fighting is fun but can be frustrating at times. I’m playing games 90% of the time with controllers, but this game has so many button combinations that I kept forgetting all of them and wished for a mouse and keyboard due to how complicated it is. There are many different combos with powers and even an added bow and arrow, but I do think this is also an issue due to the build I might have been playing, because I hope when the game comes out, you gradually unlock more and more powers and combos to actually learn instead of spawning with them all.

Especially during the boss fight i ran into an issue that left me scratching my head, and that was that he kept healing every time he was almost dead. so as it turned out, the final few hits when he was down, i needed to grab a pillar from the floor and take him down that way, but there wasnt really any indication that i needed to do that, and while i did learn about picking up flags in this mission, i didnt know i was also able to pick up pillars to use as weapons, but then again, this might just be an issue of being dropped into a game somewhere in the middle.

One of the best things about the game was its visuals, it was super pleasing and looked extremely realistic. Everything in the world had this realism to it that made it a pleasure to look at. I think this might even be one of the most beautiful-looking games I’ve ever seen in terms of how real it felt.

While it’s a hard game, it’s still a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see how it ends up being when the full game launches, but I know 1 thing for sure, this is going to be a game to keep your eyes out for because it has something for everyone. A bit of Souls combat, exploration, a massive world, and tons of enemies to take down.
