Devil World is a Pac-Man-styled maze puzzler with a small green thing collecting orbs and avoiding the enemies. Here is our Devil World Review.
The game was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on October 05, 1984, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.
The easiest way to describe Devil World is a Pac-Man clone, but it’s a bit more than that and feels a bit more impressive in some ways. You dont just have 1 area to move in, but the map itself also moves and gives you access to bits you can’t really access otherwise to complete the levels. For some levels you do exactly like what you do in Pac-Man, get the balls and win, but you first need to pick up some cross to do it. For other levels, you need to grab some books and put them in the square in the middle that misses them.
I never really was a big fan of Pac-Man due to its repetitive nature and how everything feels the exact same, but while limited, this game does feel like it’s better than Pac-Man in a lot of ways. The game is just fine, it is not really something you will sink a lot of time into but playing a few levels once in a while sure is fun for this one.

Its looks are also a bit similar to Pac-Man with the maze-style levels, but they really make it their own with its green thing you play as and the pink blobs that you need to avoid. At first, it looks really messy, but you get over that pretty quickly and everything felt placed pretty well. There is also this Devil guy at the top of the screen, not really sure what he does other than to be placed there so the title makes sense but it’s a nice visual touch so you dont just look at the maze.
