Today we’re jumping back to a time when you could just game without a care in the world, button-mashing on your controller. We get to do that with the demo of Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure. This title brings back that old-school gaming vibe with its sweet arcade elements. Developed by The Dude Games.
Retro Reloaded
The moment I booted up the demo, the retro vibes hit me right away. And honestly, the game nails it. The graphics look sharp and the 8-bit sounds fit perfectly, giving you that real arcade classic feeling. The 2D side-scroller makes it feel like I’m blasting away on my NES or Game Boy all over again. What really adds to the charm are the little easter eggs. I stumbled upon KITT (Michael Knight’s car!) and even an old Nokia 3310 buried in the ground.
I also accidentally shot a fire hydrant, which erupted into a fountain. Another cool touch: the music changes when you head into the shop, almost like the stall has its own radio playing. These little details make the game that extra bit immersive.

Story
You play as an amphibian dinosaur with the power of water. Once charged up, you can fire by blasting water. You refill by standing in a lake or picking up bottles of water. Your mission? To track down your stolen egg, swiped by a sneaky ninja. Along the way you’ll face challenges, join surf competitions and solve puzzles across a fun and action-packed Jurassic world.
Demo
The only downside? The demo is really short. I get that it’s a test version, but I would’ve loved just another half hour of gameplay to really put my store upgrades to good use.
The boss fight tripped me up at first, mostly because I was being impatient. I thought it was smart to dodge and strike constantly, but soon realized you have to let the boss unleash his attacks first, then hit him hard during his “pause” moments. Classic retro boss design. Another thing: the demo feels like a “boot and delete” event demo, the kind you’d play at a convention. Which means no progress gets saved (though to be fair, there isn’t a lot to save in this short build). Controls felt a little stiff during my first run, but when I started up again, that feeling was gone and I blasted through the demo even faster.

All in all, I had a blast with this demo and honestly can’t wait to get my hands on the full game. Want to try the demo yourself after reading this? Head over to the Steam page and check it out!
