Excitebike is an arcade racer from the 80s where you drive some tracks with hills trying to get the best time. Here is our Excitebike Review.
The game was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on November 28, 1984, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.
If I could describe this game with 1 word it would probably be “disappointing”, I always heard high praises and that the sales were massive at that time, but when I played it it was just disappointing from a gameplay perspective. It’s just a bit annoying with the hills and the way the jumping works with the boost, sometimes it would do what I want and sometimes it would just randomly not make the jumps. I am pretty bad at it, I’m not gonna lie about that, but I kept getting 1st place the whole time but after a few races I would get a terrible time again and be like 16th.
I kind of wished I could see other racers or something thats moving because now the game just feels very static and it does make the game feel a lot more boring than it actually can be. For its time, the visuals themselves feel fine, but there isn’t anything special that would give me the drive to continue long-term. There are only a few races that would just change color and none of them bring anything special to the table or throw a curveball other than the mechanics themselves.
