Funko Fusion Review

Funko Fusion should be the ultimate IP mash-up with franchises like Scott Pilgrim, 5 Nights at Freddies He-man, and a dozen others, but is it as good as it sounds? Here is our Funko Fusion Review.

The game was developed and published by 1010 Games, and it was released on 13 September 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, it will also launch on Nintendo Switch and PS4 at a later date.

The story of Funko Fusion is about Freddy Funko and his Funko factory, but in the factory, something evil is created without anyone knowing, an evil clone called Eddy Funko. He kills Freddy’s helper and mangels Freddy and steals the crown that controls all. Eddy goes on a rampage in all kinds of worlds and you have to stop him and get crowns to heal Freddy back to his normal state. The murdered helper? His parts are collectibles in levels to make him whole again and give him character. The story of the game is actually fine, you go through levels and follow the stories of the movies or TV shows in a pretty good way, and the levels are also more fun then I expected it to be.

Sadly, the game itself has some structure issues which makes it sometimes just hard to really get through making some levels way too boring, long, or straight-up annoying with enemies coming at you all the time. What also makes the game a lot harder and annoying is the lack of guidance, it basically tells you nothing and lets you figure out everything yourself. With the levels being semi-open, it is not always a fun time.

This doesn’t mean the game is all bad, because just playing around with some iconic characters is kind of fun, and discovering secrets was also just fun to do. Something I was annoyed by was that the levels are long and just like Lego you have to complete the level before being able to get all the collectibles, luckily, in a future patch (or it’s already added) you will be able to play as any character you unlocked right from the get-go. There were also some bugs in the game, but they also seem to have been patched for the most part. The developers seem to be listening to the feedback which is a nice thing for the future of the game.

In the state I played the game, it would not be worth the full price, but on sale, the game is definitely worth it. While I’m not that positive about the game, I can see it having a future if the developers continue to build on the already established content but also with some changes, because even the side content is a bit annoying to go through and find at the moment.
