Pokemon GO has been around since 2016, while it originally only had the 1st 149 Pokemon available in the game, there are now Pokemon available from any gen (excluding 9 at the time of writing) and is still bringing in more Pokemon on a regular basis. But Is Pokemon GO Worth Playing In 2023?
When Pokémon GO first launched, it became a massive sensation right from the start, attracting millions of people from all over the world to catch Pokémon in the real world. Over time, the game’s popularity slowed down more and more, leading some to wonder if it was just a temporary hype. However, Niantic, the game’s developer, continued to invest in updates, events, and new features, which helped maintain the game’s relevance and foster a dedicated community of players.
One of the key factors contributing to Pokémon GO’s popularity today is the steady stream of content updates and engaging events. Niantic regularly introduces new Pokémon, features, and challenges, keeping the gameplay fresh and exciting. From Community Days and Spotlight Hours to special Raid Boss rotations, there is always something to look forward to, making each month an opportunity for trainers to dive back into the Pokémon GO world. Even this month they announced a brand new mode to get you back outside with the Routes mode that gives you a path to follow.

In 2023, Pokémon GO continues to evolve and be better, proving that it’s more than just a hype. Niantic’s commitment to providing ongoing updates, augmented reality enhancements, and engaging community-driven events ensures that the game remains a relevant and enjoyable experience for people both young and old. Whether you’re a dedicated Pokémon GO enthusiast or a returning player looking for new adventures, the game’s enduring charm, augmented reality immersion, and vibrant community make it worth playing in 2023 and beyond.
So is it still worth playing now?
I would say yes, the game still is fun, while I had to personally stopped playing after I got in an accident, but I’m sure to pick it back up soon myself. Even after a break, there is no need to worry about having missed things because there are always ways to get things that you missed in reruns of events and almost nothing is really temporary. I quit the game before for multiple years, and when I came back to it, I had so much more fun than I had when it was initially popular. So I would say that it’s never too late to pick up your phone and start your Pokémon GO adventure.
