Jump the Track review

Most people don’t know this about me, but I’m a big Peggle fan. I’ve honestly spent way too many hours on it for such a simple game. But I always enjoy it, especially Peggle 2. This time I played Jump the Track. Think of it as Peggle mixed with visual novel elements. It has a storyline and you can make choices that impact the game. This game is developed and published by Seed by Seed.

Story and Humor

You play as Sam. The game describes him as a young dreamer struggling in the gig economy. But that might be about to change. The game includes comedy, slightly satirical, which I really enjoy. It’s not laugh-out-loud funny, but I definitely caught myself laughing out loud with a weird noise here and there. I also have to admit the story has surprising depth. It focuses on themes like power and corruption.

Peggle Mechanics and Choices

The Peggle element lets you unlock different choices in the story. You can react differently or take alternate actions. Think lying or being diplomatic. How cool is that? I think it’s incredibly creative. And even if you’re not a hardcore Peggle player, the story still moves forward without needing to restart. Just like in Peggle, you also get power moves. For example, you might get extra balls for your next shot.

Style and Atmosphere

The art style is fun and instantly impactful. Combined with the music, it feels like a comic book brought to life, with a great story on top of that. I get that the Peggle part can feel a bit repetitive at times. But just challenge yourself more and try to complete a level with fewer balls. The dialogue is pretty snappy, so it doesn’t get boring quickly.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this game, and it honestly bums me out that I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere. I only found out about it because I randomly got an email asking if I wanted to check it out. If I hadn’t opened that email, I probably never would have come across Jump the Track at all. What I love most is how different it feels. The mix between Peggle mechanics and a branching narrative is just super creative. It’s funny, it’s weird in a good way, and it actually has something to say. Sure, it’s only about three hours long. But that’s honestly my only complaint, and that’s just because I didn’t want it to end.
