Kid Icarus Review

In Kid Icarus you play as this angel, jumping up a tower to get as high as possible and take down enemies along the way. Here is our Kid Icarus Review.

The game was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on December 19, 1986, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.

The main character Pit from Kid Icarus is a legendary character, but for a long time, people have probably only known him from the Super Smash Bros. games. This is where he comes from, but is this any good? No, not really, but it still can be a bit of fun and was fun for me longer then a lot of other games, even though it doesn’t really look that good.

All you do in Kid Icarus is go up across some platforms, kind of boring after the first 30 minutes, and while it is simple, I had a blast in the beginning. There are plenty of enemies to take down and plenty to think about how to get past some bits, both with thinking about how to jump or to take down some of the harder and more annoying enemies. This is one of those games I just hate to love because I honestly didn’t like it after a while, but I just couldn’t put down the controller and wanted to continue.

From the other 1986 games, this game stands out, but not in a good way. A lot of games started becoming a lot more graphically pleasing, but sadly, Kid Icarus feels 2/3 years behind in the early NES years. Luckily, because the game is rather simple, it’s not that much of a dealbreaker and also not much of a setback to enjoying the game.

SUMMARY

A game carried mostly by name, and while it does feel dated, even for its time, it is not that bad of a game.
