Lies of P is a retelling of the old tale of Pinocchio set in a dark world with souls-like gameplay. Here is our Lies of P First Impressions.

Lies of P is developed by Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio and published by Neowiz Games. The game is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also currently playable on Game Pass.

At Gamescom 2023 we were invited by the Lies of P devs to come and check out their brand new souls-like at AMD. Here we got to play about 2 hours of gameplay somewhere mid-game.

The game is typical souls-like, but with a lot more to make it easier on yourself, and out of all the souls-likes I’ve personally played, this is for sure the most accessible one to new players. I never was able to defeat a boss in any souls-like, but here, I actually managed to do it, and the feeling was great. Sure, it took me about 3/4 tries, but each time I gained some insights on how to be better against the boss and it was more fun than I expected it to be.

There are some tools for you to change your playstyle as well, there are a few main weapons, but you also have some type of sidearm, you can collect more of them and they all do something else. The setup we used had some type of hand cannon, they were pretty useful for some long-ranged enemies, but I quickly found out it was best to keep its bullets for the boss so I could do some big damage straight away. For me this is where to fun lies, making a tactic to get further. If you die, you do get set back to a previous teleporter, but there are some shortcuts you can unlock that make the trip a bit easier if you do die.

The game is visually amazing on the AMD hardware, out of all the games I played, this might be one of the most impressive ones out there. Of course, we had some great hardware available there to play on as well, but in 4K it’s just perfect. Sadly I didn’t get much of the story because we got put somewhere on a spot that was unrevealed at the time of playing but from what I’ve seen the story is pretty interesting.
