Marvel Rivals Review

Marvel Rivals is the latest hero-based shooter, featuring many beloved but also some unknown characters from the Marvel universe. Here is our Marvel Rivals Review.

The game was developed and published by NetEase Games. It was released on December 6 2024 for PC (Steam and Epic), Playstation 5 and Xbox series S|X.

Something I was never fond of was Hero shooters, they always felt boring and slow, but Marvel Rivals fully changed that view. With its awesome characters and quick matches, I felt like an actual hero breezing through the enemies and maps. Of course, you don’t always win, but because everything is so quick, you never really feel that it’s frustrating, even the losses can still feel fun. Unless the enemy has a little sh*t like Jeff in their team, his ult is absolute hell because you can’t get out nor avoid it in a normal way, once he is there, it’s over. But all the other characters are fun for the most part, even to play against.

Launching with 33 characters is pretty massive for a hero shooter but they all make a lot of sense, and with Marvel having like 1000 characters, I cant wait to see what other characters will be coming out over the years, especially with what we have already seen in some leaks. What I like most about the game it’s characters is that they don’t just pick out all the fan favorites and characters that everyone knows, there are a lot of characters that never really were in the spotlight before like Luna Snow, Jeff the land shark and even another iron fist that isn’t the one we all know and love. There is just a really good mix of everything.

Normally with games like this (Overwatch) when I played it, it was all about leveling and unlocking lootboxes. Marvel Rivals has made the perfect change which modernizes your rewards in a massive way. Besides seasonal events, there are also daily missions and bi-daily missions called challenges to gain points that you can spend on the season pass. The best thing about this is that you can complete the season pass anytime you want, so in theory you can just boot up the game each season, buy the battle passes, and complete them a year later. I absolutely love this and while the battle pass gives enough rewards to warrant the price. The price will increase in the 1st real season, but they will also increase the reward, so that also makes sense as well.

The skins in the game are kinda earned for free, but it will take a lot of playing to actually get it. There are achievements that can give you points to spend in the store but also reward you with other stuff. The prices of the skins are a little bit pricy, but also they do look kinda cool and you get a full pack with an MVP highlight and more, so this makes the price at least a bit more fair. There are also some skins that are more expensive, but even they seem to be worth it, they not only come with extras but those can also change the character’s voices and in matches, they also change the looks of some abilities.

Overall, Marvel Rivals is the perfect game in the hero-shooter scene and I hope it will stick around because this is a once-in-a-generation game that will surely take down its competitors if it does the right thing and keep expanding on the already near-perfect game.
