MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a brand new shooter set in the 1930s with its look, feel, and cartoon art style perfectly representing that time. Here is our MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Preview.

During our time at Gamescom, we had an invite to come and check out MOUSE: P.I. For Hire and learn a bit more about the game, so we want to thank the development team and their PR for sending us an invite. *We did receive a gift package, but this does not impact our views of the game.

Sadly, we were unable to play the game ourselves, but we did talk to the developers and they had a whole presentation for us ready and they also showed off the game themselves in a controlled/open game environment, so while I don’t think it represents the game perfectly, I do think they explained how the game worked perfectly and how the game will really be when it comes out.

The game is heavily inspired by the 1930s with everything, from its style in weapons, animation, and of course the black and white art style, it’s a perfect match. They also used music from that time and were really focused on making you feel like you are a gamer if you were in the 1930s, and the music and sound effects really sold it for me. I just loved how the animations looked, everything just feels right.

If I were going to tell you what style of game it is, I would call it a Doom-style game over a Call of Duty style, it has a lot of elements of those older FPS games and really gives a perfect modern take on it as well. The gameplay looked very smooth, there was wall running, or bouncing, not sure actually, but everything looked fast and smooth, unlike other games where you sometimes need to think about what you need to do, here everything seemed already so clear to what way to pick, even though there were multiple routes.

There were many weapons already in the game, but the devs said there is more to come. They all felt right for the time, and they gave an amazing spin on all their weapons. in the end, I can see this becoming a modern masterpiece, it gave me a lot of the same feelings that I had playing Bioshock when that first came out, something fresh and new, and that is not something we see often anymore in 2024/2025.

We absolutely loved how the game looked and we can’t wait to see the full game. So if you want to keep up with it, make sure to wishlist it on Steam!
