Pinball (1984) Review

Pinball (1984) is a pretty basic Pinball game and might even be one of the first of its kind available to play at home. Here is our Pinball (1984) Review.

The game was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on February 2, 1984, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.

It’s Pinball, nothing much to it, it just felt super boring, nothing really interesting happens on it but there is a Mario easter egg that pops up on this Nintendo Version of the game that was nice, but overall there was nothing that made me really wanna continue to play after 10/15 minutes. It said there are 2 games, but I didn’t notice any difference between them and the maps are exactly the same, so that was also a bit of a bummer. The game just felt limited, if there was another map or at least some variations, i think i would have scored it a little bit higher, but being locked to only 1 map that also isnt visually interesting makes the game a 1 and done type of game.

It looked nice visually, but the black background and the menu’s als just being dark kinda made the game look more boring, it just misses that spark and color that made other NES games stand out a bit more, making this game feel like a very dated game compared to some other games like Soccer (1985). It just wasnt that clear how the controls worked either on the switch version, because pressing things on the left joycon made the left things move and right on right, but A and B were indifferent from each other.
