Pro Wrestling (1986) Review

Pro Wrestling is one of the NES Sports games made by Nintendo. Most of them didn’t hold up so great, but did this? Here is our Pro Wrestling (1986) Review.

The game was developed by Nintendo R&D3 and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on October 13, 1986, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.

Just like most NES sports games, this is another one that just didn’t age well at all, but at least this one is pretty playable when you get used to the game. You can see clearly that this game is the core of what WWE games are today and that it has built upon, so I can say that the core of this game is kind of fun as well, but it’s a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.

After pummeling my opponent for a while and thinking I was close to winning, for some reason I still was the one to lose after 3/4 punches back, and still after 10+ matches I can’t figure out what I’ve been doing wrong and why I kept losing, so after a while, it got a bit to frustrating for me, but I still had some fun with it, even though I never even beat the 1st guy.

You see straight away what you need to do just based on the stages, it’s pretty basic, but a WWE match doesn’t need much in the way of visuals, but the only problem the game had at times is the depth perception so sometimes I would just miss the opponent when he would come at me from the ropes.
