Saw: Genesis Preview – Gamescom 2026

We had the opportunity to check out Saw: Genesis early, and I gotta say, I couldn’t get enough of it. Saw: Genesis is a 3 players VS killer type game but with an escape room vibe where you have to get some useful tools, collab with the other players and either take down the killer or beat all the puzzles.

Playing against the killer

I had a great time playing the game. We got to play 2 rounds, where both times the dev was the killer and me and 2 other people had to take him down, and man, it’s so much harder than I thought it was going to be, but not in a way that’s annoying, in a way that makes you want more and more, because the game isn’t just mindlessly doing things over and over again. You actually have to search the map, find the required tools to open doors, but at the same time try and outsmart or beat down the killer, which I was very close to. When talking to the dev, I heard that I was very close to taking down the killer with a metal pipe on my 1st round, but while I didn’t manage to do that, I still did end up escaping.

Asymmetrical map and harder second match

The map is asymmetrical, so every match does feel a little different, but I actually did not manage to see much of the 2nd match because the dev made it a lot harder on us. He spawned in this monster to hunt us down on multiple occasions very early, and when you play against an experienced killer, it suddenly becomes a lot harder.

Puzzles, tools and searching the map

What I really loved was the puzzles. You could instantly see what the goal was, but the biggest hurdle is still a mystery: how do you get what you need. For example, on the 2nd puzzle we needed to get some valves, and I saw them straight away through a gate, but then when I entered the gate maze, I found it wasn’t as easy as I thought, and with teamwork we found out that someone needed to do something on a platform to change the fire that was blocking the paths. Figuring everything out was a very fun part for me. I like searching things, and there was a lot to look for. Like in boxes there could be weapons, healing items etc.

Traps after you go down

When you get taken down, it’s actually not over for you yet. Of course this is a Saw game, so there has to be some traps. You can get kidnapped and put in a device that takes off your fingers. If your teammates aren’t fast enough to come and save you, you can also just decide to sacrifice yourself, take some damage and get set free, which I honestly should have done because sometimes it’s just not possible for your team to help you. I myself wasn’t able to even find the trap room the first time.

Who this game is for

If you are a fan of games like Dead by Daylight, then this is a great game to wishlist and get when it comes out. I personally am not a big fan of that game, but Saw: Genesis is so much more fun to play. I can see myself losing many days just playing this over and over again, and because it’s multiplayer, no match will be the same, and with friends I can also see this get some amazing moments.
