Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remake of Sonic Generations, but now with brand new levels and story where you play as Shadow. Here is our Sonic X Shadow Generations Preview.

Cosmocover has invited us to check out Sonic X Shadow Generations at Gamescom, we did get some goodies (a keychain and a shadow plush) for checking out the game, but this does not impact our opinions in any way. But we did enjoy our experience very much and we do recommend people to wishlist the game.

We got to play 4 levels in the game at Gamescom, 2 normal levels, and 2 boss fights, and all 4 were absolutely stunning. The last time I really played a 3D Sonic game was when I was a kid playing Sonic Adventures, so now jumping back in with a brand new title, I expected it to feel very different, but to my surprise, it felt weirdly close to how I remember playing it as a kid. everything just was so smooth when I got into it, it was just a pleasure to play it.

Shadow does have some extra powers where you slow things down, but i didn’t really need those powers a lot unless it was required to do it. Just jumping from 1 enemy to another felt really satisfying and while it was nice just breezing through the levels, it also felt nice to just take my time to see some collectibles, but of course, this can lock you to of the faster routes due to missing a jump you need some speed for.

Just like the main levels, the bosses are perfect, the 1st boss was pretty easy for me, but the 2nd one was a bit longer and required a bit more thinking… or I was just bad, that might also be a option (probably the real one). It was this epic water monster that I had to follow and run away from, I had to shoot debris at him to take him down to get into a 2nd phase of the boss.

Technical issues? 0 in the levels I played, everything ran perfectly without any hiccups. This was on the Playstation 5 version, so I expect the full game to run just as well when it releases. Out of all the games we got to play at Gamescom this year, this felt like the most polished one and the one that felt most ready to release. Everything about the game just felt perfect and I cant wait to play the full game when it releases.
