The Berlin Apartment tells a story different from what you are used to, it’s not just about the people, but about the place itself. Here is our The Berlin Apartment Preview.
At Gamescom, we got invited by the great people from the indie booth to check out The Berlin Apartment and Map Map. We do want to disclose that we did get some amazing goodies at the event (a very comfy t-shirt), but this does not impact our opinion of the game. Don’t forget to wishlist the game on Steam!
The Berlin Apartment tells a story not just about people, but the place they inhabit, this place shows the memories and events of the people who lived here for over 100 years. Each and every person who lived here has their own stories and history, and in a place like Berlin in Europe, the history can go far back, and that’s the story the game tries to tell, they try and succeed in telling that story perfectly.
The game has many different settings all taking place in the same area and all have their own task and gameplay mechanics. it’s also not a one-and-done type of game either, there is some replay value in getting the collectibles but also getting to different options in the story. Speaking of the story, it’s all based on memories, and the memories start at the present when someone is renovating the apartment and finds trinkets of the past, these trinkets start the chain of stories from the past and how they affected the apartment in their own way.
While my time with the game was short, I loved every second of it and I can’t wait to play more when it actually releases, just like the time in the game, it flew by. I think the story of the game is about leaving something behind after you are gone to be remembered by, even if it is the smallest thing, you leave a footprint behind, a story, and it just so happened that all these stories took place here.
