The Bornless is a PvPvE FPS horror-themed extraction game set on a remote Lovecraftian island during the 1960s. It’s published and developed by Cathedral Studios. It’s free to play and playable on PC. The story dives into the deep end of an occult mystery. Players invoke rituals, battle Cultists and Demons, and compete against each other to collect Sigils, which will transform them into powerful Demons. They must survive the night or be swallowed by darkness. Here is our The Bornless Preview.
Cathedral Studios invited us to check out The Bornless at Gamescom. I really love this action-horror first-person shooter. I didn’t know what to expect after watching the trailer, but after playing the game, I really want to participate in the playtest and hopefully enjoy the game when it’s fully released.
While playing, the game wasn’t yet very well balanced, but this is something the developers have been working on. I also played alongside a Twitch streamer, which, of course, made me feel like the little brother who got to play along. Still, I really enjoyed the game.

The game is easy to understand. First, you need to loot and explore. After getting some good loot, you need to invoke the Ritual. Did you complete the Ritual? Hunt or extract! Collect three Sigils and embody the Demon of your choice. If another team beats you to the Gate, run for your life!
You play against sixteen players, divided into eight teams. The only way to escape the island and return to their respective customizable Safehouses is to complete the necessary rituals, invoke the Demons of Farmouth, and do their deadly bidding. Forge a Faction with your friends and establish one of your Safehouses as a formidable stronghold, the base for your newly formed clan. They will also add a function to have a virtual pet in your Safehouse, and you’ll be able to play mini-games inside of your Safehouse in the future—but I don’t know when! I really like the huge, detailed map. Farmouth Island sits just off the coast of Massachusetts, USA. Officially settled by Pilgrims discovering the New World, its true history is far more ancient than it appears.

I was told by the developers that they will be expanding The Bornless with “additional fun and terrifying ways to play the game.” These distinct party game modes will be accessible during limited-time events, allowing you to enjoy The Bornless in different ways. They will also expand the demon roster. Explore the 72 demons from The Bornless source material and inspiration, The Lesser Key of Solomon. Their goal is to slowly add them one by one, so you can explore their unique lore in The Bornless universe. There will also be a “quest and progression” system.
Interested in the game? Wishlist it now! You can also request access for The Bornless playtest.
