The Day I Became A Bird is a short but sweet game based on the popular children’s book. It features simple puzzles and relaxing walking sections spread across a handful of chapters.
When I first read the game description, I thought, “How can they make a good game out of a children’s book?” The answer is this charming title: The Day I Became A Bird. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I had no idea what to expect, but as soon as I saw the beautiful art style, I had a good feeling, and I was right.
The story follows a young boy who likes a girl obsessed with birds. To catch her attention, he decides to become a bird himself and starts building his own bird suit. Throughout the game, you collect feathers, solve basic jigsaw-style puzzles (where you can rotate pieces), and walk along linear paths while gathering more feathers. There are also a few other light activities like assembling the suit and finding necessary items, which is fun because you get to explore a lovely-looking park.

Although the game is relatively short and only has three or four core gameplay mechanics, it still delivers a relaxing and enjoyable, laid-back experience.
My favorite part is definitely the art style. It has a unique watercolor look that I haven’t seen in many games before. The game is genuinely pleasant to look at, whether you’re playing it yourself or backseat gaming with your child.
I finished the game in around one hour, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth your time, especially for kids. This is an excellent first game to introduce younger players to gaming. As a 28-year-old, I still had some enjoyment playing it, even if it’s clearly aimed at a younger audience. Keep in mind that my positive score takes the target age group into consideration.
