Volleyball (1986) Review

Volleyball is one of the NES Sports games made by Nintendo. Most of them didn’t hold up so great, but did this? Here is our Volleyball (1986) Review.

The game was developed by Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo, This version was originally released on July 21, 1986, for the Nintendo Entertainment System but has been ported over to the majority of Nintendo platforms. It’s currently also available on the Nintendo Switch Online NES Service, this is also the version I played to review the game.

Just like the rest of the NES sports games, this ain’t it. The game could have been a lot better, but it’s just incredibly hard to see where the ball goes and the game just seems to be too random for the majority of the time. Out of all the sports games I played, I probably like this one as one of the least, but at least it semi playable and pretty easy to understand unlike some of the others.

I didn’t fully understand how the scoring worked, mainly because sometimes you don’t get a point, and there are these bars at the bottom and sides of the board that also did something but I had no clue what that actually did. Something I just hated was the hitbox because sometimes it would just randomly not work and the people would randomly switch that I was controlling as well so it just started to get frustrating really quickly.

It’s visually fine, its at least not as boring as some other NES games that have just a black back, when you boot it up you at least instantly know the game and what the goal is

SUMMARY

It can be fun if you figure out the game, but the frustration is not worth the time.
