XDefiant is a Free-To-Play shooter that collides multiple Ubisoft franchises like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Far Cry into 1 epic gun-fest. Here is our XDefiant Review.

The game was developed by Ubisoft San Francisco and published by Ubisoft, it was released on May 21, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Ever since I’ve played The Finals and got a bit bored of it, and honestly since Black Ops 3, I’ve been looking for a shooter to captivate me again for longer periods, and with Xdefiant, I think I finally found that game. People have been calling this game the “COD Killer” ever since the 1st piece of gameplay was shown and now that the game is finally out, I believe they are right, this game blows every cod over the last 5 years out of the water with its fun and fast phased matches.

I love the speed of the game, even in-game types that are a bit slow in most games, here they all just feel very speedy, like there is one mode where you have to escort a robot to the end. While there is a respawn time of a few seconds, you don’t really feel them at all and feel instant most of the time, but it also depends on the game mode, none really feel boring and when you get better at the game it just becomes more fun, I have not really had any moment of boredom during my time. The only time I wanted to quit was after 10 hours when I almost fell asleep at 4 AM due to just losing myself in it.

Another great thing is that you don’t need to pay money to enjoy the game it’s fully free to play, the only thing that costs money are extra skins that you don’t really need and a battle pass. There is also currently a founder’s edition as well to get some extra stuff, but that is also not really needed. I love the battle pass, just like most games, you just do some dailies to get some experience to progress it and the rewards are pretty good for a pre-season, there is even a rabbid emote pack that is really cool as well, so I expect there to be much more cross-over in the future as well.

Sadly, I saw absolutely 0 Assassin’s Creed references, so as an Assassin’s Creed fan, it’s a but sad, but I do expect there to be some content for that in the future as well to promote the new game, unless you count Watch Dogs as a bit of Assassin’s Creed (which some people do), because this 1st pre-season is Watch Dogs focused and you need to get a ton of XP to unlock the 1st Dedsec character.

The maps are all near perfect, non of them really feel to big or annoying in any way, but when they did, it was more an issue with my team or an overpowered enemy team. All the maps are inspired by other Ubisoft games, so there are maps for The Division, Ghost Recon and more, they even just revealed a map based on Far Cry New Dawn, which includes one of my favorite spots in that game, so I’m so excited to see what the future holds for the game.
