Ash & Adam’s Existential Treads is a tower defence game that is not like most others. Not only do you get hunted, you are actively hunting down the enemy towers as well.
You build up your city with upgrades, place defence towers, but at the same time you hunt down spawn points to take out enemy towers and stop the waves from coming. The waves get increasingly harder, and the game can become really tough very quickly if you don’t go after the towers. I learned that the hard way. The difficulty is part of the charm, if it was too easy, it might have been a lot more boring. Still, I do wish there were a few more difficulty options.
This is not a game you can just play once and breeze through. It is a game of trial and error. You have to play, learn from your failures, and get better. As the game progresses you learn how to use the different structures to your advantage — whether that’s building tons of towers or going for more tanky upgrades. There are really a lot of buildings to master.

The game has a nice quality-of-life feature with a brand new daily level every day to try and master if you’re done with the main levels. That said, the main islands already offer plenty of content to enjoy the game by itself, especially for the price. It is a very well made and fun game.
Each time you complete an island you also get a permanent island bonus. I don’t know if I just had bad luck with my rolls, but the ones I got didn’t always feel that useful. The game can get very chaotic very quickly. I thought I would have a lot more time to farm and become super powerful, but the longer you stay on an island, the stronger the enemies get as well. Each wave brings you closer to a potential collapse of your base, especially when multiple strong enemies spawn at the same time and you didn’t place enough defences on the right side.
